Iron Man 2 is a solid sequel to Iron Man, but I don't think it was better. It was definitely bigger, but somehow it didn't live up to Iron Man. All the components are there, yet nothing comes together the way that it should. I think it has to do with the writing.
It's a fun film to watch, but the villains don't pose a viable threat. Ivan Vanko just comes off as a foreign mechanic. Justin Hammer is an idiot who isn't even a real villain. All he wants to do is upstage Tony at the Stark Expo. Once violence is introduced he is immediately sorry and tries to help the situation. A few things that it does right is introduce Black Widow, a more established Nick Fury, and War Machine. All those characters and their stories I liked, however it doesn't save the film.
Iron Man 2 is an entertaining movie, yet falls short when all said and done. The villains are poorly written and, other than a few character arcs and moments throughout the film. I thought it was pretty underwhelming.
