Rating: 9/10

Iron Man is the film that jumpstarted the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because of this, I fear that people overhype it simply because of what it has led to, instead of how good of a movie it is. That being said, it's still a great movie. Robert Downey Jr. IS Tony Stark and he embodies the character perfectly.

This is a great origin movie for the character of Iron Man. Tony's journey from an "iron monger" who profits from mass weapons sales, to a superhero fighting those who used his weapons to inflict terror is fantastic.

The fact that most of this movie is improvised really makes it relatable. This could have gone horribly wrong, but because of the talents of the actors it comes off as more of a real dialogue between people. I think that this movie has a different feel to it than any other MCU movie because of this.

While, at the time of release, the villain being a bigger, badder version of the hero made sense, it is something that has been played to death since then. Iron Man wasn't the first to do this, but it certainly wasn't the last. Watching it again, it feels a little cheap to have a giant Iron Man suit be the villain, but I can't discredit the movie for something that has become played out years after its release.

Iron Man is a well made, well acted origin movie that kicked off the MCU that still holds up today.
