Shazam! is a great, fun, DC movie that displays the departure from the widely criticized dark tone of the previous films in the universe. While it's nothing special, it's very fun. You can tell that actors like Zachary Levi are having fun with the movie and it really shows in the final product. The villain is where I think the film is weakest. There's Dr. Savannah as the main villain, but there are these weird CGI demons as secondary villains and they aren't at all interesting, character-wise or design-wise. I like that they really go all out in terms of weirdness and comic-accuracy. They know that this is a comic book movie, so it should have element similar to a comic book. While I do like comic book movies that pay attention to realism, I don't think that every movie should be that way. And when the character's backstory straight up involves magic, there's really no where else you can appropriately take the story. Move in the right direction for DC and I'm looking forward to Wonder Woman 1984.
