Jumanji: The Next Level

Directed by:Jake Kasdan

Release date: December 13th, 2019

Rating: 8/10

Jumanji: The Next Level is the sequel to 2017's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The kids from the first film are back, but now we have the addition of Grandpa Eddy (Danny Devito) and Milo Walker (Danny Glover). This time Spencer returns to Jumanji after finding and fixing the game. The kids, Eddy, and Milo must go into the game in order to find him. I enjoyed this film more than the first. The jokes are funnier, the cast is better, and the villain is scarier.

I found myself laughing out loud way more often in this film than the last, the comedy mostly comes from who is in which avatar, but there's also a few jokes here and there that really landed.

I really enjoyed the switching of the avatars from the last movie. Jack Black especially. All the actors ability to impersonate multiple people in the same movie is as impressive as it is entertaining.

Jurgen the Brutal, the villain in this movie, is much more intimidating and well written than the previous one. Now, he's still a 2 dimensional character without much of an arc, but he's also supposed to be a video game character, so I don't care as much about that.

Jumanji: The Next Level is a fun sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. It takes what the last one set up and builds upon it. It's a great family movie and a good movie in general.
