Bloodshot

Directed by: Dave Wilson

Release date: March 13th, 2020

Rating: 4/10

Bloodshot, starring Vin Diesel, tells the story of marine Ray Garrison. After he and his wife are killed, a team of scientists resurrects him using top-of-the-line technology. With his cells able to regenerate as well as superhuman strength, Ray sets out to find his and his wife's killer.

This movie is... fine? There's a decent plot as well as some great stars like Vin Diesel, Guy Pierce, and Toby Kebbel. Somehow it's still quite boring. None of the characters have any depth to them. Even the one guy you should care about, Ray, comes off as wooden at times. There's a part in the middle of the film where we don't see him for awhile and even if we do, we don't hear from him. It's just a montage.

It's not a spoiler to say that Ray is being lied to by the company that fixed him. They're wiping his memory and planting false ones in order to take out specific targets. Once that is revealed in the movie, it starts getting boring. The first act and first assassination are actually pretty good. After that the film basically turns into a kind of Groundhog Day, except if Groundhog Day focused on the people that made Phil relive his day instead of Phil himself.

Also, Ray has no arc. There's nothing that changes about him other than that he learns new information. Nobody goes through any kind of character arc and that's one of the reasons this movie can get so boring. Characters need arcs in order to be interesting and identifiable.

Bloodshot is your typical middle-of-the-road action movie. It's entertaining enough and you can easily follow the plot, however boring it can get. The action is cool, the premise is interesting enough. However, I don't think anybody is going to remember this movie in about 6 months.
